Reflection in the UIR course

Through this UIR course, I have understand the differences between the different search facilities. With the knowledge, I can apply it to my research whenever is needed. I have also uncover more about AIDS in my recent assignment. With the need of blogging, I have learn to use it in life so that I can constantly reflect on myself whenever I am free. I love this UIR course and hope that I will have a chance to do this all over again. Thanks.

Blog reflections

Through blogging, I can easily look back into my previous lessons to see what I have done through the course. I have also learnt to summarise my words so that I can just put down the main focus of the topic in each of my blog entry. The summary allows me to understand everything easily and time saving.

I will continue to introduce the habit of blogging into my personal life so that I can sum up my everyday and put it into words. By doing so, I can constantly reflect on myself through these blog entries.

The use of blogging has help me in expressing myself in a better way and more clearly. Blogging is just a beautiful thing to me now. I love blogging.

Pratical 6a

For the start out of assignment 2, our group choose a topic called 'Discuss the development in AIDS research'.

To carry out our research, we first identify the keywords in the topic. The keywords are development, AIDS, research.

Having the keywords in mind, we form variations to our keywords. With the different variations, we form phrases so that our search can be more faster with better results as we can use different related phrases.

There are many relevant results that give us useful websites. We were then have to evaluate two websites with its purpose, coverage, authority, accuracy, currency, accessibility, presentation and arrangement, usability and then the overall.

With the whole activity, I am able to know how to understand whether the websites that I am going to choose is useful for my assignment.

Pratical Worksheet 3

Purpose

In this Pratical Worksheet 3, we are supposed to identify the purpose of any four resources. Explain your answers by listing the reasons in the table provided. Reasons provided can be related to the different characteristics of each type of resource.

Resources 1: Information

Information resources provide the facts for users so that we can gather the correct information instead of the wrong ones. For some major topics, information are given by from and about government eg. cenus data, from and about organisations eg. transportation schedules, about subjects eg. science and art.

Ressources 2: Advocacy

Advocacy resources are created to influence the public opinion. It will be an attempt to increase the membership in the organization. These kind of sites promote causes. They will be actively campaign for people to give support to the issue selected.

Resources 3: Business/Marketing

Business/Marketing resources are constructed to promotea product or service. These resources may offer online catalogues, contain press releases and information about the company, offer online services,etc.

Resources 4: Personal

Personal resources are designed by individuals for different reasons. These websites will provide personal information. Subjects may range from whimsical to serious in nature, eg. may include news of the individual's favourtie stars or information on certain statistics

Search Facilities

In this assignment, I am supposed to 'Discuss the impact of drug abuse on youth'. Keywords are identified through the topic to make sure that the search process can be faster and accurate. Comparison of the effectiveness of all the search facilities will be conducted to find out which of the search facilities provides the best information to my needs.

During the process I found out that different search facilities cater to different needs and purposes. In my research the best search facility for my topic is search engine as it provides me the best result. The least useful search facility for my topic is the web directory as the resources provided are too broad.

As I said, different search facilities are available for different needs. I will continue to use the rest of the search facilities even though they are not important to me for this time. I have learnt how to carry out my research more faster and better.
